Ragi Soup Recipe | Finger Millet Soup For Weight Loss

Ragi is rich in calcium, it has highest amount of calcium and potassium among all the cereals and millets. It has a high fiber content that helps in weight loss, has good iron so cures anemia, reduces blood cholesterol and regulates blood sugar levels. It is a natural source of vitamin d.
The high amount of dietary fibre in ragi keeps the stomach full for a longer and prevents unwanted cravings. Because of its low glycaemic index, it helps reduce food cravings and slows down absorption of starch, thus helps in regulating the blood sugar and help in weight loss.
It is also good for skin as it prevents the skin tissues from sagging and wrinkles because of the presence of vital amino acids like methionine and lysine in it.
It is best consumed in the daytime to make the most of it and keep you full throughout the day. It is not advised to take it in the dinner as it takes longer to digest.

- 4 tablespoon ragi flour.
- 1 teaspoon black pepper.
- 1/2 teaspoon salt or as per taste.
- Water as required (i used 4-5 cups).
- 1 tablespoon oil.
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic (optional).
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds.
- ½ teaspoon mustard seeds (optional).
- Vegetables i used.
- 1 medium onion.
- 1 medium carrot.
- ¼ broccoli.
- 2-3 baby corns.
- 4-5 french beans.
- 3 tablespoon peas.
- 2-3 spring onion greens.
- ½ red bell pepper.
- For garnishing.
- 4 tablespoon coriander leaves (cilantro).
Add ragi flour in a bowl and some water and make a lump free batter and keep it aside.
Now, put a deep-bottomed pan on medium flame and add oil to it. Add cumin and mustard seeds and let them crackle.
Next, add onion and garlic and saute for a minute.
Now add vegetables except spring onion and bell pepper. Add salt and mix everything.
Cover and cook for 1-2 minutes on low heat.
Add spring onions and bell pepper.
Now, add ragi flour paste in it followed by water. Mix well to combine everything.
Keep stirring and allow the mixture to come to boil. Let it cook until it becomes shiny and little darker in color or until you get the desired consistency this might take around 8 to 10 minutes.
Lastly add freshly cracked black peppers and coriander leaves.
Check and adjust the seasoning and serve it hot.
- There is no hard and fast rule for vegetables. You can use the vegetables of your choice or according to season.
- You can increase or decrease the quantity of veggies or you can omit it.
- You can adjust the amount of water according to how thick or thin you like your soup to be.
